....Enjoy a different perspective of the stunning island of Fuerteventura. At night the island is transformed into a sky bursting with stars, inviting us to reconnect with the beauty and complexity of our universe. We will take you to the darkest spots on the island to show off the true magic of a starry sky, a crescent moon, star nurseries, planets and much more! There is always something incredible happening in our dark night skies. Whether you are a beginner or already have a wide knowledge you are sure to learn something from our stargazing observations. 

For those of you who would like to learn more we also offer a variety of astronomy courses and night photography workshops.

Fuerteventura is set in a privileged spot, at a latitude of 28º north. You can observe the whole of the northern hemisphere and a large part of the southern.  The cloud free skies, clean atmosphere and areas of little light pollution make Fuerteventura one of the best places in Europe to observe the night sky. NASA cite the Canary Islands as being one of the four windows to the universe and Fuerteventura has recently been awarded Starlight Reserve status from UNESCO (summer 2015).

Disfruta de la maravillosa isla de Fuerteventura desde una perspectiva diferente. Por la noche la isla se transforma con un cielo salpicado de estrellas, invitándonos a reconectar con la belleza y complejidad de nuestro universo. Os llevaremos a los puntos más oscuros de la isla para poder enseñaros lo mágico de un cielo copado de estrellas, una luna creciente, planetas y mucho más. Siempre esta sucediendo algo increíble en nuestros cielos oscuros. Tanto si eres un gran conocedor o si estas empezando a conocer la bóveda celeste, ten por seguro que algo aprenderás en nuestras observaciones.

Para aquellos que les gustaría aprender más, también podemos ofreceros distintos cursos de astronomía dependiendo del nivel inicial, así como talleres de fotografía nocturna. 

Fuerteventura está en un lugar privilegiado, situado en la latitud 28º norte, lo que permite observar el hemisferio norte en su totalidad y una gran parte del sur. Los cielos sin nubes, una atmosfera limpia y grandes areas sin apenas contaminación lumínica hacen de Fuerteventura uno de los mejores lugares de Europa para observar el cielo nocturno. La NASA se refiere a las islas canarias como una de las ventanas al universo y Fuerteventura ha recibido recientemente el status de Reserva Starlight por la UNESCO (verano 2015).

....Fuerteventura received Starlight Reserve status, granted by UNESCO in the summer of 2015. This is an awesome achievement for the island! Already recognized as a Biosphere Reserve on land and sea, Fuerteventura can now ensure that they protect their incredible dark skies too.

A Starlight Reserve is a site where a commitment to defend the night sky quality and the access to starlight has been established. It will have a core or dark zone that is protected by a surrounding buffer zone from air and light pollution. Check UNESCO site for more info.

Fuerteventura is now striving to achieve “Starlight Tourist Destination”, also from UNESCO. The aim is to have science recognised as a tourist product and to appreciate the scientific, cultural and environmental importance of our night skies..

Fuerteventura recibió el nombramiento de Reserva Starlight otorgado por la UNESCO en verano de 2015. Actualmente ya tenía la categoría de reserva de la biosfera tanto terrestre como marítima por lo que ahora también nos podremos asegurar que se protegeránsus oscuros y estrellados cielos.

La Reserva Starlight es un espacio natural protegido donde se establece un compromiso para defender la calidad del cielo nocturno y el acceso a la luz de las estrellas. Cuenta con una zona oscura donde se mantienen intactas las condiciones de iluminación natural y nitidez del cielo nocturno. Para obtener más información consulta la Web de la UNESCO.

Fuerteventura se esta esforzando para ser una referencia de "Destino turístico Starlight", contando con el apoyo de la UNESCO. El objetivo es que la ciencia reconozca como un producto turístico y a apreciar la importancia científica, cultural y ambiental de nuestros cielos nocturnos....

....Enrique de Ferra Fantín – Astronomer..Enrique de Ferra Fantin- Astrónomo....

....Enrique has a PhD in Electronic Engineering from the Trieste University, Italy. Currently he is a professor of Astronomy at the Academia de Ciencias e Ingenierías de Lanzarote (Academy of Science and Engineering in Lanzarote). He has been living in Fuerteventura since 1997. He is responsible for the Observatory La Corte, in Antigua, Fuerteventura which cooperates with international projects regarding asteroid tracking, double stars and meteor statistics. He is a member of the Agrupación Astrónomica de Fuerteventura and is a consultant for the Fuerteventura’s Biosphere Reserve, regarding the Starlight Reserve and the Starlight Tourist Destination classifications. This includes advice on sky quality measures and light pollution prevention and reduction. He has a wide experience of popularising astronomy through frequent speeches, television, radio and newspaper interviews and is part of the editorial team of the well-known magazine, AstronomíA. He speaks Spanish, English and Italian..Enrique de Ferra Fantín obtuvo un doctorado de ingeniería electrónica en la Universidad de Trieste, Italia. Actualmente es catedrático de astronomía en la Academia de Ciencias e Ingenierías de Lanzarote. Vive en Fuerteventura desde 1997. Es el responsable del observatorio La Corte, en Antigua, Fuerteventura, el cual coopera con proyectos internacionales relacionados con el seguimiento de asteroides, las estrellas dobles y las estadísticas sobre meteoros. Es miembro de la Agrupación Astronómica de Fuerteventura y asesor de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Fuerteventura en todo lo relacionado con el proyecto "Destino Turístico Starlight". Esto incluye asesoría sobre las medidas para conservar la calidad del cielo y la prevención y reducción de la contaminación lumínica. Tiene gran experiencia en dar a conocer al gran publico la astronomía mediante conferencias y entrevistas en televisión, radio y prensa, y forma parte del equipo editorial de la conocida revista Astronomía. Habla español, inglés e Italiano. ....

Simon is an incredibly passionate and dedicated photographer. Since 2005, he has covered the island, both at night and day exploring this passion and finding some of the best locations to shoot from. His knowledge of low light photography and where to find the darkest spots qualifies him as an excellent lead on our night photography experiences. He has had photographs published in Digital Photographer, F2 Freelance Photographer, American Art and the inflight magazines of AirBerlin and Jet2. Simon Waldram- fotógrafo

Simon es un increíble y apasionado fotógrafo. Desde 2005 ha estado recorriendo la isla, tanto de día como de noche explorando en busca de las mejores localizaciones para poner en práctica su pasión. Sus amplios conocimientos en fotografía con poca luz y su capacidad para encontrar los lugares más oscuros de la isla, le cualifican como un excelente líder al que seguir a la hora de aprender fotografía nocturna. Ha publicado fotografías en Digital Photographer, F2 Freelance Photographer, American Art y las revistas de vuelo de Air Berlín y Jet2.

....Karen Moore – Founder

Karen has a degree in Marketing and Communications, but it is her experience in eco tourism that gave her the initiative to create Stars by Night. She played a central role in the start-up and running of ReefDoctor, a scientific project, that later evolved into eco tourism. As coordinator of the project in Madagascar, where she was based for three years, she was in charge of relations with the local and national government, educational institutions and the fishing community. Previously she worked as a financial administrator for the Family and Parenting Institute, a non-profit British organisation and a fundraiser for a variety of known British charities.
Stars by Night was born from a camping trip to the west coast of Fuerteventura. It was incredibly dark! Observing the beauty and infinite stars of the universe above and she was hooked! She wanted to learn more and wanted to share the awesomeness with others!


..Karen Moore- fundadora

Karen es licenciada en marketing y comunicación, pero es su experiencia en ecoturismo lo que le da la iniciativa de crear Stars by Night. Ella jugó un papel importante en la puesta en marcha y posterior funcionamiento de ReefDoctor, un proyecto científico, que más tarde evolucionó en eco turismo. Como Coordinadora del proyecto en Madagascar, donde ella vivió durante tres años, estuvo a cargo de las relaciones tanto con el gobierno local y gobierno nacional, instituciones educativas y la comunidad de pescadores. Anteriormente trabajó como administradora para el instituto Family&Parenting, una organización británica sin animo de lucro, para recaudar fondos para una variedad de organizaciones caritativas británicas. 
Stars by Night surgió en una acampada en la costa Este de Fuerteventura. ¡Era tan increíblemente oscuro! Observando la belleza de la inmensidad de estrellas y la grandeza del universo se quedo eclipsada, queriendo aprender mucho más y poder compartirlo con todos los demás. ....
